JAMB lists 6 things UTME, DE Candidates must verify before profile creation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) to verify their personal information on their National Identification Number (NIN) records before beginning registration.
The Board issued the warning in a recent edition of its “JAMB Explained” series shared on its official social media platform, urging candidates to correct any discrepancies in their personal details before creating their JAMB profiles.
According to JAMB, candidates should carefully check their names, dates of birth and other personal information linked to their NIN records.
The Board explained that the details used to create a JAMB profile are drawn directly from the candidate’s NIN record with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
“JAMB does not create or edit your details. They come directly from your NIN record with NIMC,” the Board stated in the video.
JAMB also warned candidates who discover errors in their names or dates of birth not to assume that obtaining an affidavit would automatically result in a change to their records on its platform.
“Getting an affidavit won’t automatically make JAMB to update your record,” the Board added.

1. Your full name
Candidates should confirm that the spelling and arrangement of their names on their NIN record are correct before proceeding with JAMB profile creation.
2. Date of birth
The date of birth on the NIN record should be accurate, as discrepancies could create problems with candidates’ admission records.
3. Other personal details
Candidates should carefully review other personal information linked to their NIN to ensure that there are no errors.
4. NIN information
Prospective candidates should ensure that their JAMB registration details correspond with the information held by NIMC.
5. Errors should be corrected through the proper process
Candidates who discover mistakes should resolve them through the appropriate NIMC process rather than relying solely on an affidavit.
6. Candidates should verify details before creating a profile
JAMB advised candidates to complete the verification process before generating their profile and proceeding with registration.
JAMB’s official portal also provides a “Correction of Data” service covering areas such as names, date of birth, state/local government and gender, subject to the Board’s prescribed procedures and applicable fees.
The Board has consistently advised prospective candidates to ensure that their details match their NIMC records during registration. Candidates are required to use their NIN to generate a profile code before proceeding with UTME or Direct Entry registration.
JAMB therefore urged candidates to verify and correct their personal information early to minimise errors and avoid complications during their admission process.
