A coalition of civil society organisations and media institutions in Bauchi State has unveiled plans to organise a two-day dialogue for senatorial candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tagged The People’s Mandate Dialogue 2026, the event is scheduled to hold on December 2 and 3 in Bauchi metropolis, providing candidates an opportunity to present their programmes and respond to questions from voters.
Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Nicholas Afeso Oshojah, disclosed this in a statement, saying the initiative was designed to promote issue-based political engagement and strengthen accountability between elected representatives and citizens.
The dialogue is being organised by the Young Leaders Network (YLN), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Albarka Radio, BASNEC, Thamani, HnG Media Consultancy, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and other partners.
Oshojah said candidates from Bauchi North, Bauchi Central and Bauchi South would engage citizens on critical issues, including education, healthcare, security, agriculture, employment, infrastructure, poverty reduction and transparency in public resource management.
He said discussions would also focus on candidates’ legislative priorities, particularly lawmaking, budgetary oversight and effective constituency representation.
According to him, questions from citizens and documented community demands would guide the sessions, while candidates’ positions and voluntary commitments would be documented for public accountability after the elections.
Oshojah listed the six political parties eligible to participate as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Action Democratic Party (ADP).
He explained that eligibility was based on parties fielding candidates for all three senatorial seats and the 12 House of Representatives seats in the state.
Describing the initiative as non-partisan, Oshojah said it was neither sponsored nor controlled by any political party, candidate or government.
He added that the organisers would not accept financial or material contributions from participating candidates or political parties.
He stressed that the dialogue was not intended to endorse or rank candidates but to promote informed voter participation and issue-based campaigns.
Oshojah urged political parties and candidates to embrace the initiative, adding that details of the venue and participation arrangements would be announced later.
