Lagos Life game, a Nigerian-made browser-based life simulation game inspired by everyday experiences in Lagos, has crossed 2 million players just days after its launch, as its creator expands the virtual world to Abuja and Port Harcourt.
The game, created by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, went live on October 1, 2026, and quickly attracted hundreds of thousands of users. It crossed one million players within its first few days before surpassing the two-million mark.
Rayhamen, who posts on X as @Shalom_HeyEliy, announced the latest milestone on October 6, saying Abuja and Port Harcourt had also been added to the game.
“2 MILLION PLAYERS!!! ABUJA AND PORT HARCOURT ARE NOW LIVE! You asked for your cities. I built them. Now go and find your people 101k+ playing right now. 10 MILLION+ visits today. Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt”
Reports tracking the game’s dashboard also put the number of concurrent players at more than 100,000, while visits to the game have climbed into the millions. The figures are based primarily on the game’s own dashboard and have not been independently audited.
What is Lagos Life?
Lagos Life is essentially a Nigerian version of a life-simulation game, drawing comparisons with The Sims but placing players in a virtual environment inspired by Nigeria.
Players create characters and navigate different aspects of virtual life, including getting jobs, earning and spending virtual naira, paying rent, socialising, visiting entertainment spots and managing their character’s needs.
The game was inspired partly by Rayhamen’s childhood experience playing The Sims 3. She has also credited the Nigerian browser game Lagos Run, which allows players to drive a danfo through Lagos, as an inspiration for the project.
How to play Lagos Life
1. Open the game in your browser
One of Lagos Life’s biggest attractions is that players do not need to download a large application or own a gaming console.
The game is played through a web browser, meaning it can be accessed using a phone or computer.
2. Create your character
After entering the game, players create their virtual character and begin building a life in the Lagos-inspired world.
The experience is designed around making choices about work, money, housing, entertainment and social interactions.
3. Check your starting financial position
A major part of the game is the different economic circumstances in which players can begin.
Current versions of the game feature starting profiles such as “Nepo” and “Lapo”. The former refers to a more privileged financial background, while the latter is a playful reference to microfinance and starting out with fewer resources.
Your starting position affects how you approach the early stages of the game.
4. Get a job
For players who do not start with substantial virtual wealth, finding employment is one of the first priorities.
Players can work different jobs to earn virtual money, which can then be used to cover expenses and improve their virtual lifestyle.
However, working also affects the character’s energy, meaning players have to balance earning money with taking care of their character.
5. Eat and manage your energy
Lagos Life is not simply about making money.
Players need to manage different aspects of their character’s wellbeing, including food and energy. Working continuously without taking care of these needs can affect the character’s ability to function effectively.
6. Pay your rent
Just like in real life, housing comes with financial obligations in Lagos Life.
Players have to manage their virtual income and expenses to ensure they can afford their accommodation while still having money for other activities.
The game’s virtual economy includes jobs, rent, property and other financial transactions, although its virtual currency has no real-world cash value.
7. Explore the virtual city
Players can move around different parts of the virtual environment and interact with locations inspired by Lagos.
The game incorporates recognisable elements of Lagos culture, entertainment, transportation and everyday life, including places such as Amala Shitta and Quilox.
With the latest update, players can also explore Abuja and Port Harcourt, extending the experience beyond Lagos.
8. Socialise with other players
Lagos Life is also a multiplayer experience.
Players can meet and interact with other people inside the virtual world, making it possible to socialise while exploring the game.
This shared environment is one of the features that distinguishes Lagos Life from a traditional single-player life simulator.
9. Build your virtual life
The ultimate aim is to progress from simply surviving to building a better virtual life.
Players can earn more money, improve their careers, explore different locations, interact with others and pursue different opportunities available within the game.
The experience is designed to mirror some of the choices and pressures associated with everyday life, but the game’s creators stress that it remains a fictional entertainment experience.
Can you withdraw Lagos Life money?
No.
The naira earned inside Lagos Life is virtual currency and cannot be converted into real money or withdrawn into a bank account.
The game’s official disclaimer describes Lagos Life as a fictional entertainment experience, with its prices, events, institutions and scenarios potentially being simplified, fictionalised, randomised or invented for gameplay.
Why has Lagos Life become so popular?
The game’s rapid growth appears to have been helped by its simplicity and accessibility.
Unlike many modern games that require downloads, expensive hardware or large amounts of storage, Lagos Life can be accessed through a browser. More importantly, its setting is immediately familiar to its target audience.
Instead of placing players in a fictional American or European city, it turns recognisable Nigerian experiences — from work and rent to entertainment and social life — into gameplay.
Within days of its launch, the game had already crossed one million players, and its creator later announced the two-million-player milestone alongside the expansion to Abuja and Port Harcourt.
