LAGOS — The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Lagos State, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, has said his ambition for the 2027 election is driven by a desire to provide what he described as accountable and people-oriented governance.
Adeoye, a real estate entrepreneur, said he was seeking to lead Lagos not merely to occupy the seat of government at Alausa, but to implement his development agenda, which he described as Atunto Eko.
“Lagos does not need another ruler. Lagos needs a servant-leader. A leader who cares, a leader who listens, a leader who delivers,” he said.
According to him, his proposed agenda would focus on housing, poverty reduction, job creation, healthcare, environmental management, education, infrastructure, transportation and security.
On housing, Adeoye cited what he described as a deficit of more than three million housing units in Lagos and said, if elected, he would provide 50,000 affordable rent-to-own homes within four years in Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry, Alimosho and Ibeju-Lekki.
He also promised to establish a Lagos Rent Protection Scheme and reform land administration, saying the measures would address challenges associated with housing and tenancy.
On poverty reduction and wealth creation, the APM candidate proposed a N10 billion revolving micro-credit scheme, which he called Ekoowo, for market women, artisans, fishermen and nano-businesses.
He said the fund would be made available through cooperatives at single-digit interest rates, while 20 major markets would be upgraded with facilities including solar power, cold rooms and creches.
Adeoye also proposed industrial clusters in Badagry for coconut and aquaculture, Ikorodu for building materials, Epe for food processing, and the Mainland/Yaba axis for fashion, film and technology.
He said the clusters would be equipped with power and internet infrastructure and linked to off-takers, with a target of creating 100,000 direct jobs within two years.
Under his proposed Eko Skill Code programme, Adeoye said 20,000 youths would be trained annually in areas including solar installation, plumbing, coding and creative skills, with participants linked to employment opportunities.
On healthcare, he promised to upgrade 250 primary healthcare centres to operate round the clock, with personnel, medicines, solar power and ambulances.
He also proposed an Eko Health Card, which he said would operate as a N1,000 monthly contributory scheme for informal-sector workers, while antenatal care and childbirth would be free in public hospitals under his administration.
On the environment, Adeoye said Lagos generates more than 13,000 tonnes of waste daily and proposed reforms to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), including waste sorting at source and incentives for recyclable materials.
He also proposed clearing primary drainage channels, constructing 100 kilometres of lined drains and creating what he described as 15,000 green jobs in recycling and composting.
In education, Adeoye promised to revive 10 technical colleges, introduce free school meals sourced from Lagos farmers, increase teachers’ welfare by 30 per cent and deploy solar-powered digital classrooms in public secondary schools.
He also promised to fix 500 inner roads through direct labour, introduce integrated ticketing across BRT, the Blue Line and ferries, and expand water transportation to Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry.
On security, the candidate proposed community policing, solar-powered streetlights and an Eko Safety App for emergency response.
Adeoye also pledged to publish government contracts and expenditure online every month to promote public scrutiny of government spending.
On his party’s presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Adeoye said the APM candidate’s record in Oyo State demonstrated what he described as people-focused governance.
Makinde was nominated as the APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election and is listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission among the presidential candidates for the poll.
Adeoye said Makinde would address challenges including insecurity, food insecurity, youth unemployment, irregular power supply and the migration of young Nigerians if elected president.
He also called on Lagos residents to support the APM’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
“For a better Lagos and a better Nigeria, vote APM from top to bottom. Vote Seyi Makinde for President and vote Adeoye for Governor. This is how we reset Lagos and reset Nigeria together,” he said.
